A community outreach event helped nearly 150 individuals learn about and complete their Lasting Powers of Attorney documents. Volunteer lawyers donated their time and expertise to support this effort. The Lasting Power of Attorney allows individuals to appoint trusted persons to make decisions on their behalf if they lose mental capacity.

This document is important for decisions regarding health, personal welfare, property, and assets. However, many individuals have not formalized such arrangements. According to a survey, less than 13% of respondents had formalized a Lasting Power of Attorney or an advance medical directive.
