A 32-year-old Italian man, Achraf Arjaouy, has been sentenced to eight years in jail and given six strokes of the cane for trafficking a woman for sex work. He was also fined S$9,000, which remains unpaid, resulting in an additional six weeks' jail. The man had met the victim on Tinder and posed as a wealthy pilot, promising to marry her.

After a brief courtship, the pair traveled to Dubai, where the woman was made to carry out sex work. Further details of the case are available from the Singapore Courts' Integrated Case Management System. The man was found guilty on April 22 and sentenced on October 7.
