A 48-year-old man underwent surgery to donate a significant portion of his liver to a stranger. The operation, which took place in 2023, involved removing 67 per cent of his liver, as well as his gallbladder. Despite being informed of increased risk the night before surgery, he proceeded with the donation.

The donor, a father of four, has a history of volunteering and donating to help others. He has been volunteering since he was 25 and has donated blood plasma and platelets over 100 times.
